Development of Tailored Polymer Materials and Parts

The aim of our research activities is to develop plastics and components with properties tailored to the specific application. To this end, we use the knowledge gained from our modeling approaches and experimental characterization methods. For the production of components, we apply the processes of plastics engineering and develop new manufacturing processes. Novel polymers are also used for component development. In this way, innovative polymer materials and components are created that are optimally tailored to the desired applications.

A thematically important focus of our research is the development of plastic components using additive manufacturing methods. We use numerical and experimental methods to gain a deeper understanding of the process and to improve component properties. The production of filaments for Fused Layer Modeling (FLM), the analysis of material behavior during processing and the characterization of the components are an essential part of our research activities. In addition to fused layer modeling, we apply laser sintering (LS) for the production of plastic components.
