New publication on Processing of Polyoxymethylene in Fused Layer Modeling

Polyoxymethylene parts were fabricated by means of fused layer modelling. In our recent publication in Macromolecular Materials and Engineering, we show how fused layer modelling (FLM) processing conditions affect the structure and performance of polyoxymethylene (POM) components. The results which are presented in this study highlight the strong influence of cooling rate on the crystallinity of POM, which consequently affects its mechanical and tribological properties. In particular, an optimum print-bed temperature of 140 °C was found to enhance both mechanical performance and wear resistance. These findings offer a comprehensive framework for optimizing FLM process parameters to enable functional use of POM based components in engineering applications.
