New Publication on the Modification of Polylactides by Varying the Degree of Crystallization

The study “Melt and Cold Crystallization Behavior of Poly(lactic acid) with Different Molecular Weights and Its Influence on Mechanical, Viscoelastic, and Tribological Properties” on the crystallization behavior of two PLA types with different molecular weights has been published in the journal Polymer Engineering and Science. The results show that the cold crystallization of PLA is a highly complex phenomenon that can be used to deliberately tailor material properties. For PLA with higher molecular weight, careful selection of process parameters can increase stiffness and reduce the wear rate under tribological loading. These fundamental research findings contribute to the exploration of new potential application areas for PLA.
